It is an ancient pedestrian path that serves as a strong connecting element between land and sea, as well as between the past and the present. For centuries, in fact, it has been the sole connection between the village of Pisciotta and the Marina district, used by fishermen to transport their catch to the village. Thus, it's not just a road, but a genuine distinctive element of Pisciotta's identity.
Adding charm to the "Via del Pendino" is also the environmental context. Starting from the historic center of Pisciotta, the path winds its way through centuries-old olive trees – the oldest specimen, it is said, was planted over two thousand years ago. The route eventually reaches the small harbor of Marina, with its "malazzeni," the stone warehouses serving the fishermen.
The restoration intervention that will be carried out thanks to the 'Net-to-Net' project (starting in September 2023) aims to remove and mitigate elements of decay through repaving, using the same type of stone as in the historic center of Pisciotta; the enhancement of stone walls and metal railings; the improvement of public lighting; the planting of tree species; new urban furniture elements.
